US President Donald Trump made a series of posts on social media during the early hours of Tuesday (20). In one of them, a personal text message sent by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, was leaked, in which the European leader questions the American position on Greenland.
Trump published a screenshot on Truth Social with the following caption: “Note from President Emmanuel Macron, of France”, one day after sources close to the French president announced that the country has no intention of joining the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip, under the current conditions established by the US.
France’s rejection occurs because it considers that the proposal goes beyond the situation in Gaza and raises questions of great relevance, “in particular regarding respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations, which cannot be questioned”.
Friction between the two leaders grew this week after Trump announced that he will apply a 10% tariff to eight European countries from February 1, 2026, if they continue to oppose the US plan to buy Greenland.
Macron reacted to Trump’s threat to countries for their stance on Greenland, classifying it as “unacceptable”. A source close to the French leader confirmed to CNN the authenticity of the message.

“There’s no going back,” says Trump
In one of the posts on Truth Social, Trump wrote that there is “no going back” on his plans on Greenland.
He also renewed his criticism of European countries that oppose his interests in the territory that is currently part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
In another share this Tuesday, the republican displayed a message from the Secretary General of NATO, and Mark Rutte, in which the leader of the military alliance said he was “committed to finding a solution for Greenland”.
Trumo once again defended that American control over the Arctic island is “essential” for the security of the United States and the world.
