China’s birth rate drops to lowest level on record

Since 2016, couples have been able to have a second child. Five years later, Beijing relaxed the rules even further, also authorizing the birth of a third child. Still, the birth rate has continued to decline steadily in recent years.with the exception of a small increase in 2024, when 6.77 births were registered per thousand inhabitants.
