Mercosur and the European Union officially signed the agreement between the blocs, in a ceremony held this Saturday (18) in Asunción, Paraguay. The pact is the result of a 26-year process of negotiations.
“I celebrate the signing of the Mercosur-European Union Agreement (…) We intend to process the agreement as quickly as possible in the Chamber of Deputies, so that it can come into force as soon as possible and, thus, begin to share its fruits with all participants”, he wrote on the social network X.
For it to come into force, the text must be submitted for ratification by the European Parliament and the national congresses of each Mercosur member country.
