The United States could attack Iran in the next 24 hours, according to international news agency Reuters, which said it had spoken to European officials.
The agency also said that an employee confessed that the decision to intervene had been made.
Details about how the operation would take place were not disclosed, but American personnel would have been withdrawn from military bases in the Middle East in the face of the Iranian threat of attack.
Iran issued a warning to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, saying it could carry out attacks in those regions.
According to military officials, “All signs indicate that a US attack is imminent, but this is the way this government acts to keep everyone on alert. Unpredictability is part of the strategy.”
