German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier declared that his US counterpart, Donald Trump, is “destroying the current world order”, in a harsh statement on Wednesday (7) that appeared to refer to the operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
In this sense, the German ruler asked for a reaction from countries like Brazil and India to protect this order. Steinmeier called on the world not to let the world order disintegrate into a “den of thieves, where the unscrupulous take what they want.”
The president declared that there is a breach of values on the part of his most important partner, the USA, which helped to build this world order. “[…] entire regions or countries are treated as the property of a few great powers,” he said, a clear reference to Washington amid the targeted criticism.
According to the German, at this moment, “active intervention” is necessary from countries like Brazil and India that need to be convinced to protect the world order.
