ASELSAN announced the fielding of the KORKUT 8×8/140 Near Field Air Defense System, now integrated into 35 wheeled armored tactical vehicles.

Developed for low-altitude air defense, the system was configured to operate in different mission scenarios and types of terrain, incorporating new operational capabilities with a focus on mobility and flexibility.

The KORKUT had already been incorporated into the security forces’ inventory in its tracked version, in addition to registering successful exports. The new integration into 8×8 platforms aims to significantly expand the system’s strategic and tactical mobility. This configuration was publicly presented for the first time during Eurosatory 2024, held in Paris, where the system also demonstrated its performance by successfully neutralizing a moving target aircraft during firing tests.

Componente dosistema ÇELİKKUBBE

The KORKUT 140/35 is part of the Turkish ÇELİKKUBBE (Steel Dome) layered air defense system. It is optimized to provide aerial protection for mechanized units and mobile elements, offering high effectiveness against low-altitude threats in the operating environment.

KORKUT’s operational architecture is made up of three Weapon System Vehicles, which act as a team, and a Command and Control Vehicle, responsible for coordinating and integrating command and control. This structure allows for cooperative action, increasing situational awareness and efficiency in target engagement.

The system employs a double 35 mm cannon, with a fire rate of 1,100 rounds per minute and an effective range of up to 4 kilometers. The effectiveness is increased by the use of 35 mm ATOM ammunition, developed by ASELSAN, capable of neutralizing a wide range of threats, including combat aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, swarms of UAVs, air-to-surface missiles and even ballistic missiles in certain phases.

The ATOM 35 ABM and ATOM 35 I-ABM versions, with greater particle density, were designed to face contemporary aerial targets with a greater probability of destruction. The stabilized turret allows accurate shots even when the vehicle is moving, while target acquisition is carried out by a three-dimensional search radar, complemented by fire control radar and electro-optical sensors integrated into the tracking platform.
