On January 1, 2026 in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Ram unveiled the first Power Wagon equipped with a Cummins turbodiesel engine, marking a historic step in the brand’s off-road pickup line.

The launch of the 2027 model was presented through the short film “Resurrection”, presented by Tim Kuniskis, head of the American brands, SRT Performance division and Ram’s marketing and retail strategy.

At the heart of the news is the familiar Cummins HO 6.7-liter engine, an inline-six turbodiesel that produces 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, positioning the Power Wagon as the diesel torque leader in its class. Despite the new engine, Ram claims the model still retains its title as the most capable full-size off-road pickup truck.

Cummins in the Power Wagon: a long-sought customer request

According to Kuniskis, the use of the Cummins engine in the Power Wagon fulfills a longstanding customer demand. The aim is to combine the robustness of the diesel engine with the model’s extreme off-road capabilities, improving range, towing capacity and performance on trails and demanding terrain.

The Ram Power Wagon with Cummins turbodiesel will hit the market in the second half of 2026 with a starting price of $88,470 including freight.

Like the gasoline version, the diesel Power Wagon has underbody protection that protects the DEF tank, fuel tank and transfer case. The kit includes 20-inch satin-black wheels with 34-inch all-terrain tires.

The model retains rigid front and rear axles with electronically lockable differentials, which are unique in the class. Made by American Axle Manufacturing, the axles measure 9.25 inches in the front and 11.5 inches in the rear with a 3.42:1 ratio and reinforced rear axles with 38 mm.

Front suspension uses a three-link system with Bilstein monotube shock absorbers and electronically disconnectable anti-roll bar, allowing greater freedom of movement on trails. Out back, the Power Wagon has a five-link coil-spring suspension system, also with Bilstein components, that improves comfort without sacrificing cargo capacity. Rear air suspension with automatic level control is also available as an option.

Gearbox and increased range

To take full advantage of the diesel engine’s torque, the 2027 Power Wagon uses an 8-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic transmission coupled with 3.42 axle ratio. The first six gears prioritize power and traction, while the last two reduce engine revs on the road, improving fuel economy and acoustic comfort.

A 31-gallon tank provides an estimated range of up to 600 miles, specifically designed for overland and long expeditions far from conventional infrastructure.

Robust design and unique configuration

The new Power Wagon with Cummins will only be offered in 4×4 configuration with double cab and 6ft 4in bed. Off-road angles include 26.1° approach angle, 26.0° departure angle, 20.6° breakover angle and 13.2 inches of ground clearance. Standard includes Mopar rock rails to protect the cabin and chassis.

Visually, the model retains the Power Wagon’s signature aggressive styling with a functional sports hood, fender flares, exclusive graphics on the trunk, satin black detailing and Cummins decals on the front fenders. Options include extended LED lighting, RamBox cargo management system and heated trailer-mounted side mirrors with full electric adjustment and memory.

With the introduction of the Cummins engine in the Power Wagon, Ram expands its halo model lineup and strengthens its focus on offering highly specialized configurations that combine extreme off-road performance, heavy-duty capability and increased range.
