On January 1, 2026 in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Ram unveiled the first Power Wagon equipped with a Cummins turbodiesel engine, a historic step in the brand’s off-road pickup lineup.

The launch of the 2027 model took place through the short film “Resurrection,” presented by Tim Kuniskis, head of Ram’s U.S. brands, SRT Performance division and marketing and retail strategy.

At the heart of the innovation is the proven 6.7-liter Cummins HO engine, an inline six-cylinder turbodiesel that produces 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, making the Power Wagon the diesel torque leader in its category. Despite the new engine, Ram claims the model retains the title of most capable full-size off-road pickup.

Cummins in the Power Wagon: a long-awaited customer wish

According to Kuniskis, the use of the Cummins engine in the Power Wagon fulfills a long-cherished customer wish. The aim is to combine the robustness of the diesel engine with the model’s extreme off-road capabilities, improving range, towing capacity and performance on trails and rough terrain.

The Ram Power Wagon with Cummins turbodiesel will go on sale in the second half of 2026, with a starting price of $88,470 including shipping.

Made for trails and heavy work

Like the petrol version, the diesel Power Wagon has underbody skid plates that protect the DEF tank, fuel tank and transmission. The package includes 20-inch satin black wheels with 34-inch all-terrain tires.

The model retains rigid front and rear axles with electronically locking differentials, unique in its class. Manufactured by American Axle Manufacturing, the axles measure 9.25 inches front and 11.5 inches rear with a 3.42:1 ratio, along with reinforced 38mm rear half-shafts.

The front suspension uses a three-link system with Bilstein monotube dampers and electronically disconnecting stabilizer bar, allowing for greater articulation on trails. At the rear, the Power Wagon features a five-link coil spring suspension, also with Bilstein components, improving comfort without sacrificing payload. There is also an optional rear air suspension with automatic level control.

Transmission and increased range

To make the most of the diesel engine’s torque, the 2027 Power Wagon uses an eight-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic transmission in combination with a 3.42 hub ratio. The first six gears focus on power and pulling, while the last two reduce engine revolutions on the road, improving fuel consumption and noise comfort.

The 31-gallon tank offers an estimated range of up to 600 miles, ideal for overlanders and long expeditions far from regular infrastructure.

Robust design and unique configuration

The new Power Wagon with Cummins is offered exclusively in a crew cab 4×4 configuration with a 6-foot 4-inch cargo box. Off-road angles include an approach angle of 26.1°, departure angle of 26.0°, breakover angle of 20.6° and ground clearance of 13.2 inches. Mopar rock rails for cab and chassis protection are included as standard.

In terms of appearance, the model retains the signature aggressive styling of the Power Wagon, with a functional sports hood, flared fenders, exclusive graphics on the bed, satin black detailing and Cummins badging on the front fenders. Options include extended LED lighting, RamBox load management system and heated tow mirrors with full electric adjustment and memory.

With the introduction of the Cummins engine in the Power Wagon, Ram expands its halo model line and reinforces its focus on highly specialized configurations that combine extreme off-road performance, heavy-duty work capacity and increased range.
