The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced that he will convene, in early January, a meeting in Paris with countries allied with Ukraine to define security guarantees for Kiev in the event of a ceasefire or peace agreement with Russia.
According to Macron, the meeting will bring together members of the so-called Coalition of Volunteers and will focus on consolidating concrete commitments to support Ukraine. The announcement was made in a post on the social network X, following the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and United States President Donald Trump this weekend in Florida.
“We have advanced in security guarantees that will be fundamental to building a just and lasting peace,” wrote the French leader. According to Macron, the meeting in Paris will serve to finalize “the concrete contributions of each” of the participating countries.
The Coalition of Volunteers brings together around 30 countries, mostly European, and was structured on a joint initiative between France and the United Kingdom.
According to discussions held over the last few months, the coalition countries are analyzing different support formats, including strengthening the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the possibility of an allied military presence on Ukrainian territory, by land, sea and air. According to diplomatic sources, this possible presence would not include front-line action, being restricted to support and deterrence functions, with France and the United Kingdom playing a leading role.
