A fire hit a unit at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Perdizes neighborhood, in the west of São Paulo, this Saturday morning (27). According to the Fire Department, the fire started on the fourth floor of the building, located on Rua Apiacás, and was caused by a portable air conditioner.

As a safety measure, patients had to be removed from the scene during the incident. In total, five Fire Department vehicles were called to fight the flames.

According to firefighters, the fire was quickly controlled and no casualties were reported. After the teams’ actions, access to the hospital was released and the situation returned to normal.

The causes of the fire will be investigated.

In a statement, the hospital reported that a short circuit in an administrative room caused a fire, which was quickly controlled. According to the institution, the affected area is not used by patients, but, due to excessive smoke, the unit had to be evacuated preventively. The hospital highlighted that there was no impact on care or reports of injuries.
