Silvinei Vasques, former director general of the Federal Highway Police, was detained this Friday (26) at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Asunción, Paraguay. He was handed over to the Federal Police. The arrest occurred when he was trying to board a flight to another country.
The former director of the Federal Highway Police was arrested at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Asunción, Paraguay, as he tried to board a Copa Airlines flight to El Salvador, with a connection in Panama.
According to initial information, Silvinei had broken his electronic ankle bracelet while residing in Santa Catarina and left Brazil without authorization from the Court, crossing the border irregularly.
Sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to 24 years and six months in prison, he is accused of participating in the attempted coup d’état. The Court points out that Silvinei organized PRF operations in the Northeast, on the eve of the 2022 elections, with the aim of hindering voters’ access to polling places, especially in regions where the then candidate Lula had greater support.
After arrest, Silvinei must undergo a custody hearing and, subsequently, be handed over to the competent authorities.
