Ukrainian interceptor drones have downed two of Russia’s newest and rare reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), identified as “Prince Vechy Oleg.”

According to the released information, the targets were destroyed by General Cherry AIR interceptor drones, developed by the Ukrainian manufacturer General Cherry. Images of the interceptions were published on the company’s official Facebook page and show the moments when the Russian UAVs are intercepted and neutralized in mid-air.

The successful interceptions were carried out by the “Thunder” crew of the 55th Separate Zaporizhzhia Sich Artillery Brigade.

According to reports, the use of interceptor drones made it possible to eliminate high-value enemy systems without deploying air defense missiles, which are considered scarce and precious resources.

The “Prince Vechy Oleg” is presented by the Russian military-industrial complex as one of its most modern UAVs for in-depth aerial reconnaissance missions. The system could detect targets at a distance of 40 to 45 kilometers from the contact line and also operate without relying on satellite navigation. Another distinguishing feature mentioned is the presence of a secure communication channel with high resistance to electronic warfare (EW).

Well-known features of the Russian UAV

  • Wingspan: 2.8 m
  • Lengte: 0,82 m
  • Weight: 11kg
  • Maximum speed: 130 km/h
  • Operational ceiling: up to 3,000 m

Experts emphasize that the destruction of a reconnaissance drone of this class confirms the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian interceptor drones.

By “blinding” the enemy and interrupting surveillance and target acquisition missions, these systems help reduce pressure on traditional air defenses and preserve more expensive munitions for bigger threats.
