The United States (USA) warned Israel following statements by the Israeli government indicating the indefinite presence of troops in the Gaza Strip. For Washington, the strategy could increase tensions in the Middle East and make cooperation with Arab countries more difficult.
The warning was released in an official statement from the American government, distributed to the press this week. The text states that actions considered provocative tend to further distance Arab nations from diplomatic initiatives with Israel.
According to the United States’ assessment, the greater the level of confrontation adopted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, the lower the willingness of countries in the region to collaborate politically. The position contradicts the objectives of the peace plan approved around three months ago.
This agreement provides for the reduction of conflicts and the strengthening of regional dialogue as a path to stability. The military presence in Gaza, however, goes in the opposite direction, by maintaining the scenario of active tension.
Earlier on Tuesday (23), Israel’s Defense Minister stated that Israeli forces will not leave the Gaza Strip. According to him, the decision seeks to prevent further attacks by Hamas against Israeli territory.
