Estonia formalized the purchase of six South Korean-made K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers, in a contract valued at US$342.2 million.
The agreement, signed with the Hanwha Aerospaceincludes not only the launchers, but also training and operational support, and is expected to begin deliveries in the second half of 2027. The contracted package details the types of ammunition that will be supplied, including rockets CGR-080with a range of up to 80 kilometers, CTM-MRup to 160 kilometers, and tactical ballistic missiles CTM-290capable of hitting targets up to 290 kilometers away.
Furthermore, some of the launchers will undergo modifications to meet local operating conditions and Estonian traffic regulations, ensuring full integration into the country’s environment and infrastructure.
In parallel with the Chunmoo acquisition, Estonia also announced a significant reinforcement of its rocket artillery, with the decision to double the number of HIMARS systems in service. The country will receive six additional launchers, in addition to a large batch of guided rockets and ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.
The contract with Hanwha also foresees investments between US$47.2 million and US$70.8 million in the Estonian defense industry over the next decade, strengthening the local industrial base and the capacity to sustain new systems.
