The President of the United States, Donald Trump, this Monday (22) defined the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, as “a troublemaker” and warned that “he better be careful”, which represents a new rise in tone in relation to the president of the South American country.
Trump made the statement at an event held at his private residence Mar-a-Lago, in the state of Florida. He called Petro “Colombia’s new leader” despite the fact that he was elected in 2022 and only has about eight months left to complete his term.
“I love the people of Colombia. They are brilliant, energetic, intelligent, but their new leader is a troublemaker, and he better be careful,” he declared.
Trump also said that Colombia has three cocaine factories and that the drug is sent to the United States.
“Let these cocaine factories close. There are at least three important cocaine factories, they better close them quickly,” he said.
On the 10th, Trump said that, after the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro – who, according to him, his days are “numbered” –, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, “will be the next” target of American actions against drug trafficking in Latin America.
The American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, also announced on the 16th that the American government designated the Gulf Clan, considered the largest criminal faction in Colombia, as a foreign terrorist organization.
