Lula and Milei disagree on the US military siege of Venezuela

by Syndicated News

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei defended the actions of Donald Trump’s government in Latin America, stating that the siege of Nicolás Maduro’s administration in Venezuela seeks to “liberate” the country’s population. The statement, which took place during the Mercosur summit meeting, held on Saturday (20), in Foz do Iguaçu, opposed Lula’s speech on the same subject.

According to the Brazilian president, armed intervention in Venezuela would mean a “catastrophe” and set dangerous precedents. The Argentine president added that Venezuela “continues to suffer a devastating political, humanitarian and social crisis”. When endorsing Trump’s speech, he called Maduro a “narco-terrorist”.

The American government claims that military operations in Latin America aim to combat drug trafficking, and has not ruled out declaring war on Venezuela. Furthermore, it describes Maduro as the leader of a corrupt regime and claims to act for regional security reasons.
