Another member of King Charles III‘s family was recently diagnosed with cancer.
India Hicksthe ceremonial monarch’s goddaughter and second cousin, shared she underwent treatment for skin cancer, over a year after her godfather and Kate Middleton shared their own cancer battles.
“The test results from a recent skin-cancer operation came back, and the news was…not great,” the 58-year-old wrote on her Substack on Dec. 2. “Not dramatic-movie-scene not great, but just unsettlingly not great. The kind of news that makes the world blur slightly at the edges.”
India said “a worryingly fast-moving patch of cancer” was found in her lower calf.
“I reacted the way most people do: a strange mixture of calm practicality and a little private terror,” continued the daughter of Lady Pamela Hicks96, a first cousin of Charles’ late father Prince Philip. “You tell yourself you’re fine, you make tea, you answer emails, all while a small internal voice is whispering, what if it’s worse than we think?“
India wrote that she underwent an urgent Mohs procedure, in which cancerous skin is removed, in Miami.
