Opponent criticizes Bolsonaro and is attacked at vigil

by Marcelo Moreira

An opponent of Jair Bolsonaro was attacked when he invaded the vigil that was taking place at the door of the condominium where the former president lives, in Brasília.

The man, identified as Ismael Lopes, is the national coordinator of the Front of Evangelicals for the Rule of Law and was attacked and expelled from the prayer circle after criticizing Bolsonaro’s conduct during the Covid-19 pandemic. The former judge and lawyer, Sebastião Coelho, took the microphone from Ismael, who was shouted, kicked and slapped out of the room. The police had to intervene with pepper gas. The attacked man left the scene in a vehicle.

The vigil, called by senator Flávio Bolsonaro, was attended by political allies and supporters. He called Moraes’ decision that led to Bolsonaro’s arrest strange. Flávio Bolsonaro was mainly responsible for calling the prayer vigil in front of the condominium where the former president was arrested. Carrying out the act was one of the reasons cited by Moraes when ordering the former president’s preventive detention.
