Former president Jair Bolsonaro will undergo a custody hearing this Sunday (23) one day after the preventive detention ordered by minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The hearing must verify whether the arrest was carried out legally and whether the rights of the detainee were respected. The process is mandatory even in prisons ordered by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
Jair Bolsonaro was preventively arrested and the main argument for the request was the maintenance of law and order after the former president’s son, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), called a vigil with supporters in front of Bolsonaro’s residence, where he was already under house arrest.
