After two consecutive years, the number of people working from home, the so-called home office, fell, indicating a change in the work profile after the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
In 2024, around 6.6 million workers carried out their professional activities from their homes. In proportional terms, the decline was from 8.4% to 7.9% from 2022 to 2024, where 6.7 million were performing their services at home.
The finding, which represents a partial reversal of the marked growth trend during the Covid-19 pandemic, is part of a special edition of the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) released by IBGE. According to the survey, home working declined mainly in occupations that had migrated to the remote model during the pandemic.
On the other hand, the survey showed that, in 2024, 59.4% of the population employed in the private sector worked in company-owned establishments. This group, which had been losing space since 2015, grew again in 2023 and continued to expand in 2024, with an increase of 3.2%, indicating a resumption of in-person work in the enterprises.
