Truck driver Dener Laurito dos Santos, 52 years old, admitted to the Civil Police that he fabricated the story of having been tied to supposed explosives inside the cabin of his truck on the Rodoanel Mário Covas, in Greater São Paulo. The confession took place on Wednesday afternoon (19), at the Taboão da Serra police station, after investigators pointed out discrepancies between what he had said and the findings made by the authorities.
During his testimony, Dener revealed that he assembled the fake device and tied himself up inside the truck alone. Images from a security camera recorded the moment he stopped to urinate and, shortly afterwards, threw a stone at his own truck, an act that would have served to support the narrative of an alleged attack. For investigators, none of his initial version held up.
Before the confession, a driver passing by the scene had already reported that Dener’s truck began to close his vehicle moments before stopping across the road, and stated that he had not witnessed any criminal action. The false incident led to the Rodoanel being closed for five hours, at km 44, causing around 40 km of congestion.
