President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is expected to return to Belém (PA) this Wednesday (19) to participate in the negotiations of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) before the end of the event, which takes place on Friday (21). The intention is to boost discussions towards a positive final agreement.
The announcement of Lula’s departure was made by the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, through a letter written by the president, read on Sunday (16) during the closing of the People’s Summit in the capital of Pará.
“I will return to Belém on November 19th to meet the UN Secretary General in a joint effort to strengthen climate governance and multilateralism. I will also participate in meetings with several countries, representatives of civil society, indigenous peoples and traditional populations, and governors and mayors”, says Lula in the document.
The president also highlighted that the week “will be fundamental to the outcome of COP30” and defended the just transition, climate adaptation and the so-called “road maps” to accelerate the energy transition and end dependence on fossil fuels.
Road map is the term used in international negotiations to characterize detailed action plans that establish concrete steps, objectives and deadlines to achieve the same objective.
