The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, met this Wednesday (12) with the North American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in Niagara, Canada. According to the newspaper The Globepeople close to Itamaraty reported that the conversation lasted five minutes. At the meeting, they agreed to meet again.
The two agreed to hold another face-to-face meeting at a “near date”, with the intention of discussing the current stage of the conversations and seeking understanding on the tariff measures.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G7 meeting, a group of the most industrialized countries in the world. Also according to Itamaraty, the two discussed the progress of bilateral negotiations involving trade tariffs.
Mauro Vieira reported that Brazil sent, on November 4th, a negotiation proposal to the United States, after a virtual meeting between the technical teams of the two countries.
The chancellor highlighted the importance of moving forward in negotiations, as guided by presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump, who discussed the issue during a recent meeting in Malaysia.
