The United States House approved on Wednesday night (12) a bill to finance the Executive, putting an end to an impasse that had lasted since the beginning of October.
The White House reported that President Donald Trump will sign this law today, which will put an end to the longest shutdown of the American government – this Wednesday, the shutdown is in its 43rd day.
There were 222 votes in favor of the proposal and 209 against. The law approved today guarantees provisional funding for the US federal government until January 30, but the dispute between Republicans and the Democratic opposition until then is expected to be less fierce, because the project provides funding for some key agencies until the end of fiscal year 2026, which ends on September 30.
Approval was already expected because the project only needed a simple majority in the House, a Republican majority, unlike what happened in the American Senate, where there was a six-week impasse because at least 60 votes were needed for the proposal to advance.
This required that at least part of the Democrats follow the proposal, which finally happened on Monday (10), when eight opposition senators voted in favor of the bill in exchange for the commitment that the extension of subsidies under the Obamacare program (for low-income families to pay for health plans) be voted on in Congress soon.
Due to the lack of a federal government funding law, only essential services have been operating since October 1st.
