Trump says he has an “obligation” to sue the BBC

by Marcelo Moreira

United States President Donald Trump said he has an “obligation” to sue the BBC, the most famous broadcaster in the United Kingdom. The case is related to a biased edition involving a speech by Trump.

The head of the White House stated that the legal fight is necessary because “people cannot be allowed to do this”. He also accused the British channel of having “misled” the public. The BBC admitted that it was wrong to show a speech made by Trump in 2021. This is because an edit was made by joining excerpts that were originally separated by almost an hour.

The part broadcast by the BBC shows Trump saying: “We’re going to walk to the Capitol… and I’m going to be there with you. And we’re going to fight. We’re going to fight like there’s no tomorrow.” Soon after, the place was invaded.

Originally, however, Trump called on allies to “applaud senators.” The American president must ask for 1 billion dollars in compensation. Two BBC directors resigned because of the crisis, but the broadcaster has not yet responded whether it will pay compensation to Trump.
