Democratic deputies who are part of the United States House Oversight Committee released this Wednesday (12) emails in which financier Jeffrey Epstein allegedly made reference to President Donald Trump. The messages were allegedly sent to his partner, English socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, and to a journalist.
In one of the messages, Epstein allegedly stated that Trump “knew about the girls” – that is, he knew about the child sex trafficking scheme coordinated by the financier, who was found dead in his cell in New York in 2019, while awaiting trial. For related charges, Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
According to information from NBC News, the Democratic opposition released three sequences of emails that were allegedly sent between 2011 and 2019 and stated that the documents came from Epstein’s estate, as part of the committee’s investigation into the case.
In a 2019 email sent to journalist Michael Wolff, months before he died, Epstein reportedly wrote that Trump “knew about the girls.”
In the message with vetoed sections, the financier writes “Mar-a-Lago”, the name of Trump’s resort in Florida, and adds: “Trump said he asked me to resign, [mas] I was never a member. Of course he knew about the girls, since he asked Ghislaine to stop.”
It would be a reference to a request from the president for Epstein to stop being a member of the resort. This year, the White House said Trump expelled the financier “from his club because he was a scoundrel.” NBC News said it did not independently verify the authenticity of the emails.
In a press release, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Democrats of “selectively leaking emails to progressive media in order to create a false narrative to smear President Trump.”
“These stories are nothing more than bad faith attempts to divert attention from President Trump’s historic achievements, and any American with common sense sees through this farce and this clear maneuver to prevent the reopening of the government,” added Leavitt, in reference to the vote on a bill that should take place today in the House to finance the federal government and end an executive shutdown that reached its 43rd day today.
Trump has always denied taking part in Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme or having any knowledge of it.
In July, the president sued The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and its owners, the Murdoch family, after the periodical published a report that indicated that the Republican president had sent a letter in 2003 with a birthday message to the financier with a drawing of a naked woman.
This year, Trump suffered wear and tear because his government confirmed that the financier’s death was a suicide and because he claimed that a list of Epstein’s famous clients does not exist, contradicting theories from supporters of the American president.
In July, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) took a statement from Maxwell in prison, in which Epstein’s ex-girlfriend and ex-partner said that she never witnessed or heard about any “inappropriate” or criminal behavior by Trump and former President Bill Clinton (1993-2001) related to the financier’s activities.
