Man is arrested for spying on Jews in Europe at the behest of Iran

by Marcelo Moreira

German authorities accused on Tuesday (1) a Danish to act as a spy of the Iran regime by collecting information about Jewish and Jewish places in Berlin, in an operation that rekindles the fear of new anti-Semitic attacks sponsored by Tehran in the heart of Europe.

According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect, identified only as Ali S., was arrested in the city of Aarhus, Denmark, last Thursday (26), after investigations pointing out his involvement with Iranian intelligence since the beginning of this year.

According to the official statement, Ali S. would have received the mission of “gathering information on Jewish locations and specific Jewish individuals” in the German capital. Investigations indicate that he even monitored at least three properties in June, “presumably in preparation for future intelligence activities in Germany, possibly including terrorist attacks against Jewish targets.”

The operation was the result of a joint action between the German and Danish authorities, based on information provided by Germany’s Domestic Intelligence Service. The goal was to prevent possible attacks from occurring on European soil, expanding surveillance over attempted foreign agents to threaten Jewish communities.

The suspect, who is still in Denmark, is now awaiting extradition to Germany, where he will be presented to the court who will decide whether he remains in custody while formally responding to accusations of collaborating with a foreign intelligence service. The authorities did not report when the extradition will be completed.
