Photo reveals very high temperatures in countries such as Spain, Italy and Greece during a wave of intense heat that also affects North Africa. A satellite image captured by the European Space Agency (ESA) shows the extent and intensity of the heat wave that has punished southern Europe and parts of North Africa in recent days. The data were recorded on Saturday (29) by the copernicus Sentinel-3 mission and reveal temperatures far above normal both on the earth’s surface and the Mediterranean Sea (see above). The strong heat wave is only the first of the year on the European continent, but it has been raising temperatures far above average. Countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Algeria are among the most impacted. 🌡️ Understand the measurement: ESA registration combines data from five satellite orbital passages in the morning and was produced by one of the instruments of the European Mission Copenicus Sentinel-3, which measures the earth’s surface temperature (ie, heat directly in the ground, not air). Precisely for this reason, the values shown in the image are even higher than those we usually see in the weather forecasts, as the surface can heat up much more than air around. The heat, however, was not restricted to land: the Mediterranean Sea also appears with high temperatures, according to data from the Copernicus Marine Monitoring Service. The Tyrreno Sea, between Italy and the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, even recorded 28 ° C on the surface. Already the Aegean Sea, between Greece and Turkey, marked 23 ° C, significantly above average for the end of June (see map below with temperatures). On the earth’s surface, temperatures were even more alarming. The city of Seville, in southern Spain, recorded 54 ° C – one of the hottest points on the map. In Zaragoza and Béziers (south of France), the thermometers marked 47 ° C, while Madrid reached 45 ° C. In Rome, Italy, the surface temperature also hit 45 ° C, and Foggia, in the south of the country, was even further, with impressive 49 ° C. Heat dome according to meteorologists, what is causing this whole heat is a high -pressure system over the west European, known as “heat dome” (or heat dome). The phenomenon acts like a lid, keeping the hot and dry air stuck in the region and causing temperatures to rise more every day. As this system advances to the east, it pulls even more hot air from North Africa, making the scenario worse. And the forecast is that the heat wave will continue in the coming days, with thermometers exceeding 40 ° C in various regions.
