The Congressional Committee is expected to vote this Thursday (30) on the report of the provisional measure that proposes a broad reformulation of the rules for the electricity sector. The measure, reported by senator Eduardo Braga, expires on November 7th.
If approved by the joint committee, it will still need to go through the plenary sessions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate. Braga highlights that the intention of the text is to make the sector more efficient and competitive, without increasing costs for consumers.
Among the main points of the project are: setting a ceiling for Energy Development Account expenses and the gradual opening of the free energy market, allowing all consumers – including residential consumers – to choose their electricity supplier, something currently restricted to large companies.
