Michelle Agyemang faces a lengthy layoff after it was confirmed she sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury playing for England this week.
The Arsenal striker, who is on loan at Brighton, had to be substituted against Australia and revealed the diagnosis on her social media channels on Thursday. Arsenal confirmed Agyemang would “miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season as a result of the injury”.
“[I’m] disappointed that results show a torn ACL,” the 19-year-old said. “I am so grateful for all the kind words and the support from everyone. Recovery starts now, I will be back stronger than before. In all things I give thanks to the Most High God. This test will surely turn into a testimony.”
Agyemang came to prominence by helping the Lionesses to win Euro 2025 in the summer, coming off the bench to score goals that forced extra time against Sweden in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semi-finals.
She was taken off on a stretcher against Australia and Sarina Wiegman, the head coach, said after the game: “That was an awful moment. It doesn’t look good.”
