On October 17, two drones of unknown origin were spotted near the base of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Defense Forces in Reedo, in the south of the country. One of the drones was shot down by allied forces using an anti-drone rifle.
After the incident, the Estonian Armed Forces carried out a search operation in cooperation with the Police and Border Guard (PPA), but were unable to locate the downed drone. General Staff spokeswoman Liis Waxmann said security details would not be made public.
Reedo is home to the U.S. Army’s 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, an armored reconnaissance unit that is part of NATO forces. The city is about 45 km from the Russian border and Estonia has already said it is ready to shoot down Russian aircraft if a threat is perceived.
