One of the mystery aircraft registered at the Gaobeidian radar testing site in China has been fueled by speculation following the publication of scientific research on hypersonic escape pods.
Satellite images show an aircraft shaped like an arrow with a fuselage integrated into the wings, first seen in October 2023. The coincidence of features has led analysts to suggest a possible link between the prototype and the study, although there is no official confirmation yet.
A study published in 2020 details the development of an ejectable cockpit to protect the crew during ejection at the highest altitudes and speeds, a technology that already has precedents such as the USA’s F-111 model. The document also outlines a technology development plan that ranges from hypersonic cruise missiles to aircraft and future spacecraft, reflecting China’s growing interest in flight capabilities between Mach 8 and Mach 10 and beyond.
Still, experts believe that the object seen in Gaobeidian is likely just a model used for detectability tests and low-radar-reflective materials. In recent years, China has unveiled a number of advanced prototypes, but it is unclear whether many of these will see real military use or remain experimental platforms.
During this time, the country continues to strengthen its armed forces with already proven equipment, maintaining traditional combat capabilities.

“Seems to be the same aircraft/model, allegedly taken at an RCS testing facility a few months ago”. It’s seems to be again the well-known RCS-test facility at Gaobeidian, where this “strange” thing was first seen in October 2023. pic.twitter.com/fkkwc0KnWo
