Sarah Kimberly shared the story on his TikTok profile, taking advantage of the desperate situation to issue a safety alert to other drivers.
“Stop saving your home address and other frequent addresses in your car GPS address book, and I’ll explain why,” she began in the clip.
Kimberly said her friend’s car was stolen while he was at work. It turns out that his house keys were inside the car, so they were also taken by the thief.
As a result, the thief not only had access to the vehicle and all its keys, but also discovered the man’s home address, as it was saved in the car’s GPS. This was worrying considering his wife and young children were at home.
Luckily, the man saw the robbery happen and was able to react quickly. He changed the garage door opener, the locks and everything else that was needed in his house before the thief showed up there.
In fact, the thief showed up at his house to steal more. Having been proactive and changing the locks and garage code immediately may have not only saved your possessions, but also kept your family safe.
“Imagine having your car stolen, all your keys, access to your home, and only realizing it a few hours later. Think of everything that could happen in those few hours,” explained Kimberly.
“Obviously, no one plans to have their car stolen, but things like removing your home address from your car are a way to keep your family safe if your vehicle is stolen.”
Additionally, Kimberly suggested not leaving mail or letters with your address in the car. “If you prioritize safety over convenience, remove your home address from your car’s GPS. Now,” she added.
