The meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Donald Trump began this morning (26) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It is the first official meeting between the two since Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Brazilian products — a measure that provoked the biggest recent diplomatic crisis between the countries.
During a quick conversation with journalists before the start of the meeting, Trump said it was “an honor to be with the president of Brazil”.
“I believe we will be able to make great deals for both countries,” he said.
Lula promised “good news” after the meeting. “Brazil has every interest in having an extraordinary relationship with the United States, there is no reason for any disagreement between the two countries,” he said.
