Toyota surprised the audience by presenting Camry GT-S Concept on SEMA Show 2025one of the world’s largest car events. Based on the 2025 Camry XSE AWD Hybrid, the concept was developed as a design study combining sporty styling, functional engineering and production capability.
Although a conceptual exploration, the GT-S has a realistic goal: to create a sporty sedan that looks ready to drive straight from the showroom to the customer’s garage. Unlike the extravagant projects often shown at SEMA, the model retains the unchanged 2.5-liter hybrid engine with 232 hp and the interior of the standard Camry — with a focus on exterior design, driving position and chassis improvements.
“The Camry GT-S Concept is an exciting study of ambition born on the racetrack,” said Kevin Hunter, executive design director for Toyota North America. “Our goal was to envision the next evolution of the Camry XSE with aggressive refinements that reinforce its unique position among sports sedans.”
The project was led by the CALTY Design Research team in Ann Arbor (Michigan) in collaboration with Toyota’s R&D department. The result is a bolder appearance with a redesigned rear panel, bumper integrated with sports exhaust and new aerodynamic elements at the front and sides that emphasize the model’s athletic profile. The finishing touch is the exclusive “Inferno Flare” paintwork, inspired by motorsport.
“We wanted to create something aspirational but achievable,” explained Adam Rabinowitz, chief designer at CALTY. “The GT-S is a platform to test ideas and gather direct feedback from consumers about Camry’s future.”
In addition to its appearance, the Camry GT-S Concept has received an adjustable coilover suspension, which lowers the height by 1.5 inches, improves handling and provides a more aggressive stance. The braking system has been upgraded with eight-piston calipers at the front and six-piston at the rear, with discs of 365 mm and 356 mm respectively. 20-inch sports wheels with 245/35R20 tires complete the performance package.
“The Camry has always been a pillar of our lineup,” emphasized Mike Tripp, vice president of marketing at Toyota Group. “With the GT-S Concept, we show what is possible when you combine the DNA of a sedan with a sporty attitude and personality. This is a car customers can really imagine driving.”
The Camry GT-S Concept will be on display from November 4 to 7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center at Toyota’s booth (Central Hall – 22200) as part of the “Powered by Possibility” theme, which celebrates innovation across all types of powertrains — internal combustion, hybrid, plug-in, electric and fuel cell.
The model is a modified prototype with special parts that are not commercially available. The modifications may affect performance, safety and warranty, and are not approved for public roads.
