From then on, the Latin Mass almost disappeared. In the 1980s, an order from Pope John Paul II (1978-2005) allowed some exceptions, but it was Benedict XVI (2005-2013) who, in an apostolic letter from 2007, relaxed the restrictions, expanding the situations in which the Tridentine Mass could be celebrated.
