This Saturday (25), tropical storm Melissa gained strength and became a Category 1 hurricane in the Caribbean Sea.
The phenomenon advances towards the coast of Jamaica, with winds that already exceed 120 kilometers per hour. Authorities warn of intense rain, with the risk of flooding and landslides.
In addition to Jamaica, the south of the Dominican Republic and Haiti are also expected to be affected. In these regions, heavy rain has persisted for several days, worsening the situation.
In Haiti, the government confirmed the deaths of at least three people as a result of a landslide caused by heavy rains.
According to meteorologists, Hurricane Melissa could gain even more intensity and reach category 4 in the coming days.
