See ad against tariffs that angered Trump and made him cut off negotiations with Canada “High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation from other countries and the start of fierce trade wars.” Ronald Reagan’s speech in 1987 was part of the advertisement broadcast in the USA that infuriated Donald Trump and made the American president declare this Thursday (23) that he would “terminate all trade relations” with the country. The advertisement paid for by the government of Ontario, a Canadian province, shows an excerpt from the speech that Reagan gave in 1987, when he was president of the USA, to criticize trade protectionism and tariffs. The aim of the ad was to criticize Trump’s current pricing. Publication by US President Donald Trump on the social network Truth Social Reproduction/Social Networks See Ronald Reagan’s statement, made in April 1987, marked one of the most tense moments in trade relations between the United States and Japan. At the time, the American government had imposed 100% tariffs on Japanese electronic products, in response to non-compliance with a bilateral agreement on semiconductors. The speech, broadcast on national radio, sought to justify the measure without breaking with the ideal of free trade defended by Reagan. See the video above.
