ST Engineeringa shipyard in Singapore, has launched the first Multi-Functional Combat Vessel (MRCV) for the Republic of Singapore Marine (RSN).
MRCV Victory is the first of six MRCV which will be launched, while the remaining will gradually be delivered from 2028. The future ones MRCV of the Victory class will replace the six Victory class corvettes currently in service with the Singapore Navy.
Minister of Defence Chan Chun Sing presided over the launch ceremony on Tuesday 21st ST Engineerings Marine Benoi dyes. MRCV was launched by Sing’s wife, who acted as godmother.
“That is why we need new capabilities and work together as an integrated Security Air Force (SAF) to defend and protect our maritime lines of communication and ensure that no one with ill intent can interfere with our day-to-day operations,” Minister Sing said.
“Today, our strategic lines of communication extend much further. […] This is critical to our lives and livelihoods, and also to the world economy, due to Singapore’s critical geostrategic location.”
MRCV Victory will now undergo equipment testing, integration of platform and combat systems as well as acceptance testing. At the same time, MRCV’s pioneer crew will start training to prepare them for the operationalization of the ship in the coming years.
The MRCV project reflects a strong partnership with Forsvarets Teknologisamfunn, incl DSTA, DSO, ST Engineering and other industrial partners to ensure that the ship can deliver the expected operational results.
