Tariff war between the USA and China increases Chinese interest in Brazilian soybeans China announced this Thursday (23) that it will begin a new round of trade negotiations with the United States in Malaysia in the coming days, following a new escalation of tariffs between the two largest economies in the world. “According to what was agreed by China and the United States, (…) Vice Prime Minister He Lifeng will lead a delegation to Malaysia from October 24 to 27 and participate in economic and trade negotiations with the United States,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. From Sunday (26th) Malaysia will host the summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which will be attended by American President Donald Trump. After several months of truce, China and the United States returned to a new trade battle this month, after Beijing announced greater control over exports of rare earths and related technologies. Trump responded by threatening to impose additional 100% tariffs on all imports from China and cancel a meeting with his counterpart Xi Jinping scheduled for this month in South Korea. The Republican president, however, later explained that he hopes to reach a “good” deal with China and end the trade war. According to the Chinese ministry, the negotiations in Malaysia will address “important issues related to economic and trade relations between China and the United States.” *Report being updated US and Chinese flags flutter in Beijing Tingshu Wang/Reuters
