The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale that includes 45 pods of the M30A2 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternative Warhead, as well as telemetry kits, technical assistance and logistical support.

The United States has approved a possible foreign military sale to Singapore that includes Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternative Warhead (GMLRS-AW) missiles and related equipment, in a package estimated at $83.14 million. The approval was announced by the US State Department on April 1, 2026.

According to the announcement, the Singapore government has requested to purchase 45 M30A2-pods off GMLRS-the alternative warhead system. The package also includes telemetry kits, engineering services, technical assistance and other elements for logistics and program support.

According to the US rationale, the proposal is expected to strengthen Singapore’s defense capabilities, improve its response to current and future threats and contribute to regional stability. The US assessment also indicates that the country is not expected to have problems integrating the equipment and services into its armed forces.

The main supplier in the agreement will be Lockheed Martinbased in Bethesda, Maryland. The weapon named in the approval is the M30E1 GMLRS-AW, a surface-to-surface missile developed to meet the US Department of Defense’s unexploded ordnance policy, replacing the GMLRS DPICM version, which is considered non-compliant.

The approval is part of the US’s formal Foreign Military Sale (FMS) process. In recent announcements, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency has stated that beginning in February 2026, notices of major military sales will be published on the State Department website.

The M30A2 GMLRS-AW is fired from systems in the MLRS family, mainly M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS/M270A2. Lockheed Martin describes the GMLRS as compatible with the HIMARS and M270, and the US Army states that the M142 HIMARS fires one pod, while the M270 fires two pods of ammunition from the GMLRS family.
