Public servants’ protest ends in confrontation in Venezuela A public servants’ protest for better salaries ended in a clash with the police this Thursday (9) in Caracas, Venezuela. The demonstration brought together thousands of workers trying to reach the presidential palace headquarters. The march was contained by security forces, who used tear gas and shields to disperse the protesters. The act occurred one day after the government announced a salary increase without detailing the values, which generated distrust among workers. Currently, the minimum wage in Venezuela is equivalent to around US$0.27 per month. Protests of this type have been rare in the last two years, following a wave of repression following the re-election of Nicolás Maduro in 2024.
