“Operation Acolhida was created to organize the Brazilian State’s response to the migratory flow on the border between Brazil and Venezuela, in the state of Roraima. Since 2016, the region has started to receive an increasing volume of Venezuelans in vulnerable situations, demanding emergency and intersectoral action. The initiative constitutes a federal strategy for humanitarian assistance to Venezuelan refugees and immigrants, adopted in the face of limited local capacity to respond, in isolation, to the high migratory flow on the country’s northern border.”
