Best DC2 Integra Type R? Tolman Edition Is A Perfect Restoration

by Syndicated News

  • Tolman Engineering completely restored a DC2-generation Integra Type R.
  • The Integra is one of four one-off commissions from Tolman planned in 2026.
  • The car was fully restored but also mildly upgraded for better everyday usability.

Tolman Engineering may be known for motorsports success, but the company has made an equally successful pivot to restoration and restomod work. First to arrive was the Tolman Edition Peugeot 205 GTI. Now we have the one-off Tolman Edition Honda Integra Type R.

Rather than simply turning the Integra into a restomod, the Tolman team restores it to a better-than-new state. The finished product celebrates the machine without radically transforming it.

Tolman cleaned up any rusty metalwork, reinstated structural components, and added more sound deadening where applicable. The paint was swapped to Sorrento Green to match the owner’s Tolman Edition Peugeot 205 GTI. And all of the rubber seals and trim were replaced as well.

Under the hood, the B18C four-cylinder engine was refreshed before being dyno-tested to ensure it delivers the factory-promised 190 hp.

Tolman fully refurbished the suspension, refinished the 15.0-inch Enkei wheels, and slapped on a set of Michelin tires. Then the car covered 100 miles as a validation test of all the work done.

The process took 740 hours from start to finish, and the end result is an Integra Type R that’s slightly better than new.

Motor1’s Take: These sympathetic restorations could become an increasing trend in the face of endless restomods that rob a vehicle of its original charm. Restomods are fun, for sure. But there’s something great about a simple, clean restoration.
