The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Iran’s chargé d’affaires in the country persona non grata this Thursday (2) and gave him 48 hours to leave the country, amid a new episode of diplomatic tension between the two nations.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship informs that the Argentine Republic has declared Mr. Mohsen Soltani Tehrani, Counselor and Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran, persona non grata, in accordance with Article 9 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and he must leave the national territory within 48 hours,” the ministry said in an official statement.
The measure was adopted in response to a previous statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, which, according to the Argentine government, contained “false, offensive and unfounded” accusations against the country and its authorities, following the decision by the government of Argentine President Javier Milei to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist group.
