A truce between the United States and Iran? The United States sent Iran a proposed plan to end the war in the Middle East, according to a report published by The New York Times this Tuesday (24). The document has 15 points and involves Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp According to the newspaper, the proposal was sent to Iran through Pakistan. It is not yet clear whether Israel participated in drafting or agrees with the plan. It is also unknown whether Iranian authorities would accept the terms. Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 said it had access to the proposal and said the talks involve a 30-day ceasefire for negotiations. According to the report, among the points are: the commitment to never seek to develop nuclear weapons; the limitation on the range and number of Iranian missiles; the decommissioning of the Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow uranium enrichment plants; the end of funding for allied groups in the region, such as Hamas and Hezbollah; the creation of a free maritime zone in the Strait of Hormuz. Since before the start of the war, the US has advocated for Iran to limit its uranium enrichment program to prevent the development of a nuclear bomb. The Americans also want Tehran to restrict the range of missiles to avoid threats to allies. Currently, there is also great concern related to the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran has been making it difficult for commercial ships to pass through the region, which puts pressure on the price of oil around the world. United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that American officials are talking to Tehran to end the war. According to him, Iran “has no leaders left” and has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies having engaged in ceasefire negotiations with the US. Trump’s statements come at the same time that, according to Reuters, the US is preparing to send thousands of troops to the Middle East. Last week, the agency reported that officials with knowledge of the matter said the US may carry out a ground operation in the country. Among the options is the seizure of the island of Kharg, responsible for around 90% of Iranian oil exports.
