US says it killed Iranian soldier who tried to assassinate Trump

Hegseth did not disclose the identity of the suspect, but said the death occurred on Tuesday (4). “The leader of the unit that tried to assassinate President Trump was hunted down and killed. Iran tried to kill President Trump, and President Trump got the last laugh,” Hegseth told reporters. ➡️ In 2024, the US Department of Justice charged an Iranian in connection with an alleged plot ordered by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard to assassinate Trump, then US president-elect. Tehran has denied accusations that it targeted Trump and other US officials. Trump cited the alleged Iranian plot when he spoke Sunday about the joint U.S.-Israeli operation that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, telling ABC News, “I got him before he got me.” United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. military was making steady progress against Iran after a series of intense attacks. He said ballistic missile launches across Iran’s theater of operations were down 86% from the first day of fighting and that one-way attack drone fires were down 73% from the first few days. He stated that U.S. airstrikes were expanding as the U.S. established localized air superiority along Iran’s southern coast. “We will now begin to expand inland, striking progressively deeper into Iranian territory and creating greater freedom of maneuver for American forces,” Caine said.
