Republican deputy María Elvira Salazar renewed her criticism of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), saying that Brazilians are “fed up” with the president.

The American congresswoman, an ally of President Donald Trump, added that, in her opinion, the Lula government does not follow the principles of democracy, but of authoritarianism.
“Brazil will not go back. Freedom will win and Lula will be defeated at the polls,” said Salazar, referring to the presidential elections in October, in which the PT member will run again and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, will try to unseat him.

The American congresswoman is known for her criticism of dictatorships in Latin America and the political situation in Brazil amid allegations of rights violations involving right-wing politicians and supporters in recent years.
The Republican deputy considered that Bolsonaro’s trial at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) was influenced by “political revenge”.
She also made numerous criticisms of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. On one occasion last year, the American accused the judge of abuse of power and called him an “activist judge”.
