Trump suggests US should reduce efforts in Middle East

US President Donald Trump again suggested this Friday (20) that the US is “very close” to achieving its objectives in the war against Iran and should reduce efforts soon.

“We are very close to achieving our goals as we consider scaling back our massive military efforts in the Middle East in relation to the terrorist regime in Iran,” he wrote in Truth Social.

The statements come amid the announcement that the country is sending more marines and amphibious assault ships to the Middle East, shortly after Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, claimed that the country had defeated the “enemy”.

Earlier, the president told reporters at the White House that he believes the United States has already achieved victory in the conflict after destroying the Iranian Navy, Air Force and missiles in recent weeks.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that countries that use the strategic energy route should be responsible for its protection.

“The Strait of Hormuz will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other nations that use it — the US will not! If requested, we will assist these countries in their efforts in Hormuz, but this should not be necessary once the threat from Iran is eradicated. Importantly, it will be an easy military operation for them,” he said.
