Trump on Iran: “We will take as long as necessary”

by Marcelo Moreira

At a medal ceremony at the Pentagon this Monday (2), the President of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke publicly for the first time since the attacks on Iran began. The Republican stated that, initially, he estimated that the action could last four to five weeks, but highlighted that it is not subject to deadlines. “We will take as long as necessary,” he declared.

According to Trump, the Persian country is “the main sponsor of terrorism in the world” and its nuclear program has grown rapidly, with missiles that can reach Europe and other surrounding military bases. The objective of the military action, according to the American leader, was to prevent Iran from developing these nuclear weapons, which, according to him, would be an “intolerable threat to the world”.

At the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General Dan Caine, announced the increase in the number of fighters in Operation Epic Fury. According to Hegseth, the goals are to destroy Iran’s ability to launch ballistic and naval attacks against Israel and American targets and neutralize the nuclear program.
